We all face present and future challenges. While anyone can develop a mental illness sometime in their life, anxiety and depression are two of the most common mental illnesses facing young people today. We know from research that embedding the skills to bounce back from adversity, while also making meaningful connections with others, are key drivers of wellbeing.

Our journey led us to positive psychology expert Sherri Fisher, who shared her POS-EDGE model and how it could be used to create a step by step approach to building wellbeing. The result, a 52 week bite sized approach to building resilience and wellbeing.

Wellbeing is something you learn through practice, like any skill. To get better at wellbeing, science has shown us that you can embed these skills into your daily routine. The Positive Edge Journal has been designed in practical, bite-sized pieces.

Each piece aims to reduce feelings of helplessness, stress, anxiety, and depression in the short term, and is key to building resources that prevent or soften the blows of your future challenges.

Unlike a course you take that is over in a few weeks or months, the Positive Edge Journal is a whole year’s worth of flourishing – long enough to really embed the skills into your life. 

Users will learn how to think both more accurately and positively about their life adventures; engage their strengths, social intelligence and mindfulness for achieving goals; build their optimism and resilience; and find more meaning and purpose in life.

COLLABORATE WITH YOUR TEAM, CLASSMATES OR COLLEAGUES TO BUILD WELLBEING TOGETHER

Most importantly, while it’s designed to be used by individuals, the Positive Edge Journal is at its most powerful in groups. You can use your journal to collaborate with others, helping to build the language of wellbeing offline, whilst also joining our community to share with those throughout the POS-EDGE community and throughout the world.

The 52-weeks is divided into eight sections, beginning with an introduction about the importance of wellbeing. Users will actively begin to Learn, Grow and Flourish with the seven elements of the POS-EDGE®.

In Learn, we teach users a bit of wellbeing success science. In Grow, we help users understand how this builds wellbeing, and in Flourish they will get to try the skills for themselves and have a chance to reflect on their experience.
